We had been planning on going to one of the gorges along Slippery Rock creek, hubby to fish and me to explore, but with all the rain during the past two weeks, the creek was running too high to be safe. So, in a quest for blog material, I just wandered the yard Saturday morning, recording the sights.
With almost two and a half inches of precipitation during the past two weeks, it is green, green and greener here. Spring is currently a force to be reckoned with ~ blooms blanket the countryside and most of the birds have returned. So please let me present a small slice of my Saturday morning.

Barbecued Asparagus
Adding sauce to asparagus then grilling imparts a rich, nutty flavor to the veggie. This is actually my favorite way to serve it. It doesn’t taste so much like… well, like asparagus.
¾ c barbecue sauce
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
asparagus (enough for 4 to 6 servings)
Pre-heat grill. Combine sauces and mustard in a small bowl or jar and blend well. Brush sauce over asparagus. Place asparagus, uncovered, on grill for three to five minutes or until tender, rotating once.
Note: Try to use asparagus that are all of the same thickness so they cook evenly.
Flowering Purple Leaf Shrub (
JDinWPA)
I can not remember the name of this plant either, but it's prettiest when it's blooming.
Hiding at the edge of the Hemlocks.
I forget the name of this shrub.
This is one of the first years in a while that honey bees are presented this early in the season.
Looking up through the branches.
In the neighbor's yard, of course!
One of the last blooms for this year.

I don't think there's a difference between males and females.

Hey Bliz. Thanks! It is so nice to finally be getting something fresh out of the garden again. One of the reasons I grow asparagus is that it's early. That and it takes almost no work at all. And I really like cream of asparagus soup.
Hello calpoppy. You are not the only one who enjoys a solid field of dandelions. Like a field of gold. Well that is until they go to seed and then they're just a pain!
Let's see ~ for apple varieties I have Yellow delicious, red delicious, northern spy, early macintosh, winesap, a hard, grass-green cooking apple, and another I-can't-remember-its-name variety. But it gives a bunch of large greenish-yellow apples with a red blush that are tart and very versatile.
Good evening Proserpina. Thanks! Stop on by and you can have as much asparagus as you wish. There seems to be a lot of it this year!
So my landlord gave me 30 days to move. Nice huh? That's gotta be worth at least an extra 5 lbs. don't ya think? He got himself in a financial bind and has to sell this house pronto (like any house is selling pronto, sure.) It's ok. I found a half duplex just down the road a piece with everything I need. It overlooks a wooded valley and has a big oak or maple in back that's perfect to put some lawn furniture under or maybe a picnic table. It's too shaded to grow anything veggie wise though. :( Maybe in time after I move in I'll discover a place for some container gardening. For now your gardening blogging will serve my vacarious need for pursuit of the fresh veggie.
Soory to hear about your continuing housing woes. I can't believe he expects you out in 30 days ~ even harder to believe the place would sell that quickly. The housing market is horrid. So many places for sale and so few buyers. It would be a great time to pick up some very nice abodes if you had lots of extra cash. HA! Like how many of us have any extra cash.
At least you've found something decent close by. And like you said, maybe once you're in, you'll discover an area or two for some containers.
This rain has really been putting a damper on my gardening. For, what, the past two weeks(?), it's either been raining or too wet to do much of anything. One of the local stations was assuring that, starting Mother's Day, the sun will shine and the rain will leave. We'll see!
Good evening Proserpina. I'm off to check out your blog and whine about the rain. lol!
Hi GG. I think it's about time to make some cream of asparagus soup. Maybe tomorrow. It's my favorite of a recipes asparagus.
Oh, and news flash ~ There was a Harry sighting two days ago. Ok, it could've been Harry or it could've been a different chipmonk. Honestly, they all pretty much look alike to me! AND ~ I saw the first hummer of the season at the oriole feeder tonight!
Right now we seem to be in the cross hairs of two cells.
(and fresh asparagus)
Hope you're relaxing and not all stressed out and stuff. I can never relax (especially trying to keep my mom happy on this day with the errands and stuff) but I figure we all have work to do whether we're in our teens or middle-aged, so I try not to let it get to me.
I'm looking for places to sight-see in Pittsburgh or around it..and I'm learning the geography and stuff. I could recite the counties, major cities, (Camden, NJ; Wilmington, DE, etc) and landmarks of the Philly area in my sleep. So far I know the counties Greene, Fayette, Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Butler; I'm missing a few...
Alright well have a nice week anyway...Didn't intend to get into that stuff.
I'll be back tomorrow for a more in depth hello and whine, but for now I'm heading upstairs. Tomorrow is once again kj day... already! How time flies when you're haveing fun! ;}
I read in Shores blog (excuse the copy and paste) On the plus side, we just made plans to visit Ohiopyle and Falling Waters this weekend. Falling Waters is that Frank Lloyd Wright house designed around a waterfall. It ought to be an interesting and photogenic trip!
I'm heading to Phoenix, AZ this weekend and we are planning (and hoping to make it) a trip to Frank Lloyd Wright's house in Scottsdale. It's called Taliesin West. I hope to get a slew of pictures too!
We should get together and combine our pics!
Great blossum pics. It's like spring all over again. Looks like my late winter gold finches have donned their summer plummage and made it to your house.
Have a good trip. I'm trying to get my stuff together tonight so we get a decent start time tomorrow.
Ciao Proserpina! Have a lovely trip!
Hey GG. Yea, a flock of goldfinches showed up just over a week ago. They were beautiful to watch, all flitting here and there. And throughly thrilled to find the thistle feeder. Why the heck is thistle seed sooooo expensive??
Hopefully I'll get some good photos this weekend. It's supposed to be really gorgeous when the rhodies are in bloom but I'm not sure they are yet. They aren't here but Falling Waters is further south so maybe, just maybe!
Have a wonderful trip this weekend! I posted a video about Falling Waters over at Karen's and was going to post it here, but decided not to - we'll let you give folks the images, not those silly folks at PBS.
I've been just pushing and pushing to get some boats done - Memorial Day is creeping up a whole lot faster than I realized. I know it's the last Monday of the month, but the last Monday isn't supposed to be the 25th! That's just way too early.
I can't remember what a rhododendron looks like - have to go google an image. I'll bet they're your version of our oleanders. I'd trade you every hibiscus and oleander I could find for some of those lilacs, though....
Off to work on some photos. See you on the other end of the weekend!
Obviously, I caught you over at GG's ;-) Have a great day. I'm off for the afternoon now and was just doing a quick fly-by myself. I do have something I'm going to stick in the mail tomorrow for your hubby to peruse. Could it have to do with fishing in Texas....???? Hmmmm......
Hi shore. Yes, we still have a local drive-in and, depending where you live, you can have the local dairy deliver your milk at home. While we do have stables around, I wouldn't call them liveries and I'll have to check on the Nesbitt soda. I know there are still a few old and odd soda pops still on shelves around here, Tom Tucker ginger ale comes to mind, but I don't hang too long in the pop aisle. lol.
Excellent about the fishing promo. BTW, you'll never believe the card I found in the hallmark store the other day. I was searching for a card for one of my friend's birthday and there it was! I thought of you immediately. Expect it in the mail this week. hehe.
Thanks for stopping by my blog last week; I'm afraid I haven't been out on the blogs much lately either.
I love your pictures!! all of them they are great!
Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
