Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 22, 2008.

In Western Europe, the large low pressure system in the Eastern Atlantic will send a front through Ireland and southern England Thursday, triggering light to moderate rain. This front is expected to dissipate over northern England Thursday night and Friday morning, but light rain and drizzle should continue. Farther south, a chance of rain will remain in the far northern Iberian Peninsula and western France early in the day. Expect rainfall rates to pick up in western Iberian Peninsula in the afternoon as a new Atlantic system approaches. Rain can become heavy at times Thursday afternoon to Thursday night. This system will lift northeast and carry a cold front across the Iberian Peninsula Thursday night and Friday, resulting in continued moderate to heavy rain across the southwestern Europe.

Farther east, the broad area of low pressure dominating across the eastern Mediterranean Sea and Eastern Europe will gradually lift northeast, producing widely scattered precipitation across the region.

Finally, a weak low pressure system will slowly move northwestward through southern Scandinavia Thursday. Mostly light precipitation is anticipated with this system. On the other hand, northern Scandinavia can expect tranquil weather under high pressure.

In an effort to emphasize the uncertainties in their forecast, NOAA for the first time included a probability with their "numbers" forecast. The numbers NOAA predicts are 12-16 named storms, 6-9 hurricanes, 2-5...
