Cape Porpoise was named by Captain John Smith when he was pleased to find a pod of porpoise playing at the entrance to the harbor. The lighthouse on Goat Island has recently undergone a major renovation to restore the covered walkway that was swept away in the Blizzard of 1978. This view is from Langsford Road.

Thanks, Gil. Lighthouses are fascinating structures. This light station has a fog bell attached to the white pyramid structure on the far right, and a 5th order fresnel lens in the light tower itself.
