and the hope that goes forward.
I remember seeing a similar sight in 1989 when
wildfire swept through the Oakland, CA hills
destroying I don't know how many homes.
Congratulations on the Blue Border and the VIP.
What does this have to do with saboteur's? I believe the homeowner, like so many others in the neighborhood, have raised a flag in honor of being American, in honor of the first responders who battled bravely, in honor of our resilience.
What was totally amazing about this was the neighborhood was not completely destroyed. Once house left unscathed while the next burned to the ground. In fact, in one or more of my photos, you can see neighbor houses that are still standing.
When I kept up with coverage on this fire, I assumed these people had built deep into a forest. The shocking thing was, no they did not. This was actual city that burned, not some cabins up in the mountains and down gravel roads.
Dave
"Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"
There may not have been bombs bursting in the air, but with the fire all around brave first responders stood their ground to save the lives and property of total strangers. Unfortunately, there came a price and not everything was able to be saved.
Yet, once the smoke cleared and rays of sunshine provided enough light to see...there stood the Red, White and Blue in all her glory.
The capture here of hope (the flag and what it stands for) and despair (the rest of the photo) is the epitome of a "Yin and Yang" type photo, and it is a beautiful representation of the resilience that we Americans have.
Great capture! Definitely has been added to the Favorites List and got a "10" from me!!
PS...as far as Horacenick's post about the USA being saboteurs....seriously? Do me a favor...do like I did years ago and put on a tan urban camouflage uniform (for me in my time it was green), pick up a pack and rifle, and go defend that piece of cloth flying over the rubble of what used to be someone's home. Defend what that piece of cloth stands for instead of accusing Big Brother of setting the fires to wipe out countless homes for some illicit government conspiracy.
I lived for 20 years in Colo Spgs, hated to see this happen to such a great city. If it was man-made, I hope that they find the perp.
