Orion LX Weather Station Goes to Super Bowl XLVI

By: CWS3175 , 10:52 PM GMT am 10. Februar 2012

An Orion LX Weather Station from Columbia Weather Systems stands guard atop the Verizon Mobile Command Center.

The trailer supported the Indianapolis Department of Homeland Security during the recent Super Bowl weekend. When not in use, the 51-foot Featherlite trailer resides in Texas.

WeatherMaster Software is displayed on all the monitors inside the trailer and the exterior big screen.

Thanks to customer David C. of Saab Sensis for spotting the photos in an online article and calling the story to our attention.

Quoting from the article: "Having this trailer allows Verizon to operate in a very adverse environment in the case of disasters," Price said, "as well as in situations where there are limited facilities to provide a base of operations, as in the Super Bowl." Richard Price is Chief Business Continuity Officer for Verizon.

Thanks for the kind words, @mckTXaws. We sell our weather stations primarily to industry and government agencies, as well as weather buffs with significant discretionary income. Ultrasonic technology provides increased accuracy and sensitivity over mechanical sensors, but you are right about the increased expense!

Your stations look like high quality products. But those prices give me nightmares. I'm really fond of your Capricorn 2000EX. I like to stick to cups on the wind sensor as they're easier to service and cheaper to replace. The science of ultrasound is beyond me. If I ever had 3000$ to spend on a weather station the Capricorn 2000EX is it. I've admired your stations for a while.
