Watches & Warnings

Coastal Flood Advisory, High Surf Advisory
Issued: 11:25 EST Jan. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening...
... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 7 PM EST this evening...

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a coastal Flood Advisory...
which is in effect until 7 PM EST this evening.

* Location: areas adjacent the Atlantic Ocean.

* Surf height: nearshore waves of 8 to 10 feet.

* Timing: water levels are forecast to reach minor coastal flooding thresholds
during high tide this afternoon. High surf expected through this evening.

* Coastal flood impacts: minor inundation of water in and near low-lying
coastal areas is possible.

* Shoreline impacts: breaking waves will result in beach erosion with only minor
damage possible to dune structures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds... wave action and/or tides
will combine to create flooding of low areas along the shore... and near tidal
rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the possibility of Road closures and minor
flooding of properties. If travel is necessary... do not attempt to drive
through water of unknown depth.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

All tide heights are relative to mean lower low water.
Time of the high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
Total tide combines astro tide and surge.
Flood category based on total tide.
